Original description:
Bugatti introduced it's very last 'Type' models in 1955, the Type 251. This exotic car was designed by Gioacchino Colombo and featured a quite unique engine configuration - transversely mounted behind the driver. It had a 2.5-litre displacement and could deliver up to 230 bhp. The Type 251 also featured newly developed DeDion tube non-independent rear suspension aimed to add to the car's sporting capabilities. This model was discontinued in 1956 but not before competing for 18 laps in the French Grand Prix driven by Maurice Trintignant.
